My roommate came to lift with me again, he even told me me to wake him up if he wasn’t up by the time I was going to go to the gym.  I guess he’s serious about lifting this summer and trying to cut some weight which is a good thing, I hope he’s able to do that.  I never realized how competitive I can be until my roommate started lifting with me.  If he felt up to putting weight on the bar for his lifts I had to put weight on too.  I did my deadlifts a little bit differently today.  For a long time I’d just being pulling triples and increasing weight till I couldn’t pull triples and then I’d pull singles until I hit one that felt like a grind.  Pulling five triples at 300 was much harder than what I used to do for deadlifts.  Towards the end I could feel my grip weakening so I’ll need to work on that.

What’s a cardio?

I did some HIIT today, this was the first cardio in months.  I figured since it’s summer and I can run outside I don’t really have an excuse to not do cardio any more.  I went to a track near by and just sprinted the straight away five times with about 3 minutes in between sprints. 

I bought some L-Arginine and Beta-Alanine in pill form from a local health food store just for kicks and to see what happens when I take them before I workout.  I took one pill of each before running and I’m not sure if it made a difference.  I noticed that  I did not seem to have the lactic acid burn that I usually get as a result of sprints, perhaps as a result of the amino acids.  I’m going to keep taking them and experiment with the dosage to see what happens.

I also picked up some target brand whey protein today to try out.  It’s nothing special, but I wasn’t expecting anything great.  The taste is tolerable and it mixes well so that was a pleasant surprise.  The ingredient list is pretty simple but the first ingredient listen is whey concentrate and the second is whey isolate so I’ll take that as a good sign as well.

Considering running Ed Coan’s routin for squat/bench/deadlift over the summer just for kicks and giggles.
